WEIZMANN LECTURE IN MUNICH

The Bavarian Chapter of the German Society of Friends of the Weizmann Institute held its second Weizmann lecture, hosted by the Max Plank Institute for Psychiatry in Munich, on February 21 2018.

About 100 guests were in attendance. The keynote speaker was Prof. Alon Chen, head of the Department of Neurobiology at the Weizmann Institute and the Director of the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry. Prof. Chen leads the Max Planck-Weizmann Laboratory for Experimental Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neurogenetics, a collaboration between the Max Planck Society and the Weizmann Institute.

In his talk, “The Stressed Brain: It’s All About Balance,” Prof. Chen explained the neurobiology of stress, in particular the mechanisms by which the brain regulates the response to stressful challenges and how these mechanisms are related to psychiatric disorders.

The guests enjoyed the evening’s artistic elements, presented by Daphna Margolin, the Israeli eco-tech artist.

The Bavarian chapter, chaired by Gil Bachrach, was established in 2016 to raise awareness for the Weizmann Institute and engage people in the activities of the German Society of Friends of the Weizmann Institute, which is chaired by Dr. Manfred Gentz .The event was sponsored by Metzler Bank.
